Classroom Connect Grants

Teacher Grant Recipients! Three years ago the Teacher Grant Program was launched by CalRTA. Funds are made available for classroom support—no strings attached. Grants of $100 are given out three times each year to active teachers who apply online. Winners are randomly selected. During this past quarter several thousand applicants were eligible to win. Twenty five teachers were awarded grants. Division 6 winners were Carmelita Weddle from Santa Clara H. S and Vicki Bumgardner from East Los Gatos. Pam Kinsley, our division president, had the pleasure to present each recipient with a check for $100 from the Sacramento office. 2grant_recips

8,000 applications were submitted to CalRTA (state) for this year’s teacher grants. Only 25 grants were awarded. Summerdale Elementary School, Berryessa Union School District, Teacher Caroline Rebecca Tran was one of the lucky winners! Classroom Connect will provide $75 grants to members that volunteer in classrooms. The grants will then be awarded to the teachers our members are helping. Members who volunteer in a classroom on an ongoing basis can apply annually for a $75 grant for the teacher they help. May’s recipients were:
  1. Debbie Cereghino at Trave School, SJUSD
  2. Sharon De Angelo at Goss School, Alum Rock
  3. Cynthia Jones at Canoas School, SJUSD
A special $100 CalRTA grant was won by Spanish teacher Jennifer Woo from Wilcox High School. She was presented the award in her classroom by Spencer Hinkle.   Funds for this program are collected at 3 luncheons a year.
